- Scores range from 5 to 35. The higher your
score the less satisfied you may be with your life
- A Score of 5-14 indicates a fairly high degree
of satisfaction with your life. No one is ever perfectly
satisfied with every aspect of their life. However some
people have figured out how to be contented with and even
find joy in being satisfied with what is, rather
than always searching for what could be. John Lennon once
said: "Life is what happens when you're not looking."
- A Score of 15-25
indicates some dissatisfaction with your life. If you want
to be happier with your life there are many things you can
do. 1.) get a piece of paper and write down all of the major
things you are dissatisfied with. 2.)Then determine which
of those things you actually have control over. (Remember
you do not have control over another person's thoughts,
beliefs or actions.) 3.)Of those things you do have
control over, choose one and plan how you might change it.
When you have succeeded, begin on another item from your
list. Some items will take more time than others. For instance
if you choose to learn better communication
skills to improve your marriage, it might take longer
than determining to clean the house every morning.
- Remember you are in charge of your life. You have the
power to change your life and make it what you want
it to be. Don't be a victim of
your life, take control of it!
- A Score of 26-35 indicates
major dissatisfaction with your life. Some of us are caught
in vicious cycles of life events which make it difficult
to have the kind of life we would like. For instance, people
in war-torn countries who have lost family, friends and
their home have little control over their life circumstances.
However, in spite of everything they have to endure, many
of them still report that they are happy. How can that be?
It happens because happiness, joy and inner peace are not
created by external forces. They are created by each individual,
how they choose to live, feel and think. Is your
glass half full or half empty? Much of what needs to change
in order for your life to be happier is your perception
of your life's events, your degree of control over it and
your ability to make the best of what is instead
of complaining about what is not. Begin making your life
happier by first following the steps listed above (in the
26-35 score paragraph.) Also think seriously about the degree
of pessimism you tend to have. Pessimism is something you
can change, believe it or not.
- Training yourself to look for the good aspects of every
situation will help you find joy in your life. Instead of
complaining about everything that goes wrong, think about
what life lesson you can learn from it. This is the most
important secret ingredient to a happy life. Make
lemonade!
